The Meigs County Pioneer and Historical Society was organized in 1876 and has held an annual meeting every year since. Throughout the years talk was of a place to preserve the history and relics of the past. In 1971, property was purchased at 144 Butternut Avenue, Pomeroy, Ohio and the Meigs County Museum became a reality.
The Meigs County Museum, owned and operated by the Meigs County Historical Society, houses the Historical Society library, as well as the Meigs County Genealogical Society library. The Historical Society library holds many early Meigs County Probate records; Meigs County census to 1930; Family and local histories; Newspapers; Tombstone records; Photographs of area towns, individuals, sites; Maps; Surrounding publications of records, histories and censuses to 1930; Ohio Civil War Rosters; State & Local histories; Miscellaneous publications and records; IGI Index on microfiche for Ohio and several eastern states; Family trees, Ohio & other state and miscellaneous records on CD’s.
Hours: For the months of January, February and March, 2010 - Tuesday through Friday - 10:00 - 3:00.
Plan to resume regular hours in April - Monday through Friday.
Closed the week of the Meigs County Fair - August 15 - 21, 2010 and all federal holidays. May be closed due to inclement weather or other emergencies. During winter months, if you are traveling from a distance, we advise you call ahead to verify hours due to weather.

Hosting the Log Cabin on the Meigs County Fairgrounds during the Meigs County Fair.
Continued publication of historical records of Meigs County and other books of local historical value. Volume II (1987)Volume III Meigs County, Ohio History, (2001) are available.
Preservation and interpretation of Meigs County history, through museum exhibits, programs and written documentation.
